MEET GEORGE

“I’ve enjoyed working on home renovations throughout my entire adult life.  It started when I was in my 20’s and my best friend bought a fixer-upper.  When it came to improvement projects, he had the attitude: “If anybody else can do it – so can I.”  Ever since, I’ve adopted his sentiment as my own.  My friend would always invite me over to help him, and we both learned through hands-on experience.  We gutted a bathroom and re-plumbed and re-wired it.  We tore out all of his kitchen cabinets and built new ones with raised-panel doors from dimensional lumber, using a table saw and a router.  And we added a 16’x20’ deck with built-in benches onto the back of his house. 

My passion for renovating homes continued after I got married, and my wife and I moved from one house to the next.  Somewhere around the fourth or fifth house we joked that we were “improving America one house at a time”.  But we really were!

In the mid-90’s – while we were living in Pennsylvania – I took some tradesman classes at a vo-tech school and began my first home improvement business.  I wound up working for a residential-commercial electrician for a few years during the same time to supplement my income as I tried to provide for my growing family. 

Over the next 20 years I pursued a different calling, but I continued to perform home improvements – whether semi-professionally or on our own properties or for friends.  In 2008 I worked with a General Contractor friend of mine to build a new house for our family in Wisconsin.  I was on the job site almost every day during the build, and I assisted in every element of the construction other than excavation, concrete, and HVAC.  I was solely responsible for the wiring throughout the house. 

After living in Texas for three years, my wife and I moved back to Rochester, MN in the fall of 2020. I established Rochester Renos and Repairs LLC in October, 2020 and passed the MN Department of Labor and Industry licensing exam as a Residential Remodeler.  

When I work on someone else’s home, I do so as if it were my own.  I purchase quality products at the best price I can find, and I take the time to make sure things are done right – according to local building codes.
